Q - State why and when health and safety control equipment, identified by the principles of protection, should be used relating to types, purpose and limitations of each type, the work situation, occupational use and the general work environment, in relation to:
A It is better to put a soundproof enclosure around a noisy machine than to expect everyone who might be exposed to the machine's noise to wear hearing protection for example compressors.

Personal protective equipment (PPE):-
A All personnel should have full PPE regardless whether they need it or not.
Limitations of PPE –it only offers minimal protection and only to the user.

Respiratory protective equipment (RPE):-
A RPE should be used according to the method statement. Limitations of RPE: Filtering Face piece Respirator - Face seal cannot be fully achieved over facial hair.
Half-mask Respirator - Facial hair reduces efficiency, Breathing is not easy, Speech and vision are slightly reduced

Local exhaust ventilation (LEV):-
A LEV should be a collective measure to protect all the workforce and supply adequate oxygen, prevent build up of contaminants and maintain a comfortable environment.
Limitations of LEV - Can be difficult to design and is only effective close to source

A Health and safety control equipment relevant to the work should be used as explained at the site induction, method statement and toolbox
