Numerous privileged people get to turn a blind eye to this cycle as it will never affect them. Being privileged, has lead multiple people to safe comfortable lives, including myself. After working at the St. Louis Crisis Nursery my perception of privilege, oppression, and diversity has changed making me realize how far behind our society is with accepting the world’s diversity. Having this experience has opened my mind to not only seeing how people are struggle but how the privileged seem to not knowledge the problem. I have struggled to explain to people closest to me about this blind privileged world they are living in, wanting desperately for them to see, for them to want to help, for them to understand. I want to be a voice for the people that are shadowed by oppression. A professor once told me; ‘Kelli, you can’t be angry at something, if you do not do something with that anger.
