The description of a set of beliefs as "liberal" or "conservative" is a task that, in history, has changed in its requirements and protocol. We would now consider beliefs to be conservative that were at the onset of the American experiment considered liberal. Free markets, limited government, and federalism were ideas that were ridiculed throughout most of the civilized countries of the west up until recent history. On the other hand, what we would now consider to be modern liberalism can’t well be described in a similar fashion: Hobbes’ style of conservatism and its antidemocratic and autocratic impulses, while always the end result of collectivist tendencies such as modern liberalism, don’t translate completely into FDR’s style of governance and the Left’s penchant for social democracy (though Hobbes would appreciate the control that central planning entails). Modern liberalism, like modern conservatism, can be traced to a form of liberal thought. In modern liberalism’s case, though, it is rooted in continental European thought such as French Revolution radicalism and subsequent collectivist ideologies (devoted more to equality and a concept of "change") than in conservatism’s bedrock, more individualist Anglo Saxon thought. Thus, when referring to "conservative" and "liberal", the reference will be to the modern manifestations of such.…

They also believe that TANF is a safe keeping for the poor and protection. They believe in long-term temporary assistance to a certain extent. Conservation believe that TANF should be a short-term need of assistance. They think that people are taking advantage of the temporary assistance. They also think that opportunities should be provided to make it possible for those in need to become more independent instead of them continuing to become dependent on the support of the government. Both Liberals & Conservatives believe that temporary assistances is a way of helping less fortunate become more independent and sustainable along with becoming less dependent on government support. Liberals believe TANF should be a long-term temporary assistance to a certain extent whereas Conservatives think it should be a short-term need of assistance.…

Republicans are more conservative (believe in personal responsibility, limited government, and traditional American values) and democrats are more liberal (believe in government action to achieve equality, and has the government solve problems). For example, republicans believe in traditional values so they oppose to gay marriage, and are opposed to abortions. This quote from a republican named Donald Trump shows that he is against gay marriage, “I'm not in favor of gay marriage. They should not be able to marry, I just don't feel good about it. I don't feel right about it. I'm against it…” but on the other hand democrats are all for gay marriage. Here's an example of a democratic view on gay marriage named Bernie Sanders, “of course all citizens deserve equal rights. It's time for the Supreme Court to catch up to the American people and legalize gay marriage.” These quotes show how different the republicans and democrats views are on gay…

Conservatives often come from a background of wealthy families who have not experienced a harsh lifestyle or difficult upbringing. Liberals are often ones of minority groups and immigrants whose lifestyle has only gotten better with the evolution of change. Then there are the exception to the rule, there are economic conservatives and there are social conservatives. Economic conservatives can come from economic dominant groups and social conservatives often come from socially dominant groups. The next factor for both sides comes from their location.…

Republicans are more conservative and believe answers are from the people. They want the government to be less interfering with issues. Also, republicans are more into property rights, then in well fare rights, but also hold economic equity above equality. In another words, they believe that people should make their own decision, rather than rely on the government. Democrats are more liberal and believe the government must look above an individual person for the greater good in terms of welfare. Doing what is necessary to make the…

It is 2016 and some people still do not think that people of the same sex should be able to get married. Conservatives have a different view on same-sex marriage, they believe that marriage should only be shared between a man and a women. In today's world, it is discrimination to not allow a certain group of people to get married because of the gender they fall in love with. Conservatives believe, “Traditional marriage and family, based on marriage between one man and one woman, is the foundation for a free society and has for millennia been entrusted with rearing children and instilling cultural values.” (Anderson).…

The difference between the Republicans and Democrats, explains Oklahoma Representative J.C. Watts who is a Republican, is that the republicans believe people are instinctively bad at heart, while Democrats believe people are instinctively good at heart (Leonard 2015). While this isn’t necessarily the greatest explanation between the two, there is some truth to it. Democrats are more prone to implementing policies or programs to fix solutions, while republicans deal more with the people that are having the problem. A few of the main differences between the two parties stem from ideas on taxes; republicans believing in tax cuts across the board while democrats believe that taxes should be higher depending on one’s income (Elaneor ?? 2016). Republicans tend to lean more to the conservative side opposing the issues of gay marriage and abortion but are for gun rights while democrats tend to be more liberal favoring gun control, gay marriage, and abortion.…

After carefully reviewing what it means to be a liberal or a conservative, I have found that I have mixed beliefs depending on what the issue is. With that being said, I still tend to find myself leaning a bit more to the left, than the right, making me fall into the 10.9% of the population who consider themselves to be slightly more liberal. What I like about the liberal point of view, is that they are accepting of alternative lifestyles, and the overall freedom to be who I choose to be, and live how I choose to live; regardless of someone else’s traditions. What I dislike about the conservative point of view is their special interest in religion, as well…

The terms liberal and conservative are used more than others in academia, political conversations, and by the media. However, it is doubtful that many people have a clear understanding of what each label represents and the differences they signify. It is difficult to pickup an editorial page of any newspaper without reading about the in-fighting of conservatives and liberals in either the house of representatives or the senate or other political groups due to the fact that these terms are often used improperly. It is crucial that the interested student and concerned individuals are able to define them and recognize when they are properly and improperly used.Whatever the differences in the “left” and the “right” accepting change and involving…

The first, left-liberals, believe in governing themselves on personal matters, but they want government to control economics. The left-liberals "want government to serve the disadvantaged in the name of fairness. Leftists tolerate social diversity, but work for economic equality" (Libertarian 1). The opposite of the left-liberals is the right-conservatives. This group believes in free-markets with government putting a check on personal freedom. "Right-conservatives prefer self-government on economic issues, but want official standards in personal matters. They want the government to defend the community from threats to its moral fiber" (Libertarian 1). The next group is the libertarians. The libertarians want little government help or control. "Libertarians are self-governors in both personal and economic matters. They believe government 's only purpose is to protect people from coercion and violence. They value individual responsibility, and tolerate economic and social diversity" (Libertarian 1). The opposite of the libertarian is the authoritarian. Authoritarians believe that government should have control, that people should…
