Controversial Topics In Politics
One of the most controversial topics in politics today is Trump wanting to build a wall between Mexico and the U.S., to decrease illegal immigrants coming to the U.S.. Now a lot of people are for and against this proposal. This controversy has brought a lot of news media’s attentions. For example, Fox news is known to have a conservative perspective towards Trump. Where as CNN is known to have a more liberal perspective, but with the exception on some issues they can be a bit conservative. As of this topic, CNN is seen to have a liberal perspective.
“Trump makes deals all the time, it’ll be a great deal.” says the talking wall. CNN politics made a video showing the process of proposing a bill. They state that if Trump gets elected as

Fox News showed an interview between the O'Reilly Factor and Trump, and the interviewer had asked Donald Trump what he wanted to say to President Vicente. In response Trump said “Get your money ready, because you’re going to pay for the wall.” When the interviewer had asked this they gave Trump the opportunity to say something to the President of Mexico in front of all the american viewers. This in a way promotes Trump. The interviewer himself had said if Trump's wife were on the ballot he would have voted for her, as a “joke”. When the interviewer says this it shows viewers that he has an intention to possibly vote for Trump, because he was giving compliments to the family. When Fox News airs this on their channel they also have that same opinion as the interviewer. If they didn’t they wouldn’t have aired this interview on their channel in the first place.
I believe that CNN targeted their audience better than Fox News had. I say this because CNN had a more liberal perspective. Which made their video apply to everyone, without such a high bias against or for Trump’s proposal. Whereas Fox was easily analyzed as a more conservative bias. When they make their perspective more bias, it only attracts certain people to their channel because not everyone would agree with their perspective on the

In my opinion this article was written with bias-based and under the groupthink fallacy. This is a typical stance for the FOX network and their staff. The author is suggests that everyone in the country is upset by the president 's choice. There is certainly an agenda in this article. There is also an undertone of Nationalism within the article because of the condition of…

The biggest breaking story I chose was about the Afghans heading to the polls to vote amid the threats of insurgent attacks. On the CNN website, it seemed like the story was less detailed and descriptive than the other sites. Even though it covered the situation in Afghanistan, the information was delivered in a more passive way than FOXNews and MSNBC, almost as if it was a more opinion-based article. I noticed also that some of the key points that were covered on the CNN site were also covered in the other sites. Information on how many candidates were competing for election and how many seats were available in parliament seemed to be a point that all of the sites included. One main difference in the information that CNN covered, compared to the other sites, was it didn’t discuss or report anything about deaths during the election process. While news of different attacks were covered, like a roadside bomb blowing out the glass of a governor’s vehicle for example, reporting that there were no injuries quickly followed. There weren’t many links included on the page that related to the story. However, the one link that was there was a video that helped reinforce what the article covered. Other related links lead to topics on Afghanistan and the Afghanistan war. The commentaries on the CNN article were different because they described different accounts of what happened. Some discussed people were still going to the polls to vote while others came from candidates in the election.…

On October 26, 2006, U.S. President George W. Bush signed the Secure Fence Act of 2006 to help secure the US. Mexican border to decrease drug trafficking and security threats. The act mandated the construction of almost 700 miles of barrier fences along the Mexican border. The act also appropriated the expansion of checkpoints, vehicle barriers, and technological systems designed to monitor the expanse of the boundary but per the department of homeland security, this promise had not been kept, just 5 percent of the double-layer fencing is complete, only 36.3 miles. Under those circumstances, the boldest promises made by the president-elect, Donald Trump, as well as one of his first promises, was building a wall along the US-Mexican border.…

The amount of air time Donald Trump received on the campaign may have been more than most candidates experience during their campaigns. Donald Trump’s face was consistently on the minds of millions because of the news and most social media platforms. This allowed people to have easy access to information on where Trump stands on many issues and what policies he wants to implement. Interesting to note, a political researcher by the name of James N. Druckman, wrote a paper on the effects of image by the medium television and how people’s mentalities shifts. In the results section of his paper, he…

CNN consistently identified the sources and experts used in the reports. It appeared that although CNN usually consulted with sources on both sides of the issues, the reports typically provided more weight to particular news perspectives. For example, one CNN (CNN, 2013) story relative to gun control failed to provide a perspective for gun rights. The entire news report featured television news personality Piers Morgan and his opinion on gun control. The report lacked the gun advocate perspective and touted the opinions of a television personality who has no expertise in the issue, which infers bias and a lack of credibility in the report. Instead, the journalist should consult with experts representing both sides of the issue to provide more balanced reporting. Facts and figures from reliable and credible third parities will also improve fairness in…

Donald Trump is the Republican choice and holds views which beforehand were only used as internet jokes, which has led many to initial think he was a joke run for president before he realised he could actually win. He believes that a wall should be built on the Mexican border to prevent people from crossing over without earning a USA citizenship, and also thinks that Muslims should not be allowed into the country in case they are terrorists. Some however think that by “build a wall” actually means he will just increase security, among these are Collan H. who says “Many say that Trump is actually going to build a wall, but he won't.” Many criticize him by saying that he will be persecuting Muslims and that his plan of having a special Muslim…

Every presidential election year tensions and tempers flare between opposing party supporters. This year’s election season was no different, perhaps even more volatile than years past. The popular phrase “lesser of two evils” was heard countless times throughout the election, denoting the nominees Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump to be the only available options, regardless of how ill received they were. The media played a monumental role in this election, basically framing out the nominees personalities which heavily influenced how voters perceieved them. The bias in the media was grossly transparent throughout the entire election, uplifting Clinton while dragging Trump’s name through the mud. The media’s perpetuation of false narratives…

All of these controversies have brought rage and anger in many American households. On the other hand, many Americans find that there is nothing wrong with what Trump is doing on Twitter or in the media he is just trying to make “America Great Again.” CNN has a huge conflict between their crew and Trump; Donald Trump does not like CNN because of their “Fake News” that is constantly being reported about him and what he is doing trying to do for the Nation and the rest of the world. For this assignment I chose two of the most popular weekly news programs. The first was “Meet the Press” from my local NBC affiliate out of Chicago on March 2nd Sunday morning. It was hosted by Chuck Todd and aired at 10am. The second was from my local Fox channel also based in Chicago and was “Fox News Sunday”. It was hosted by Chris Wallace and aired at 9am on March 2nd Sunday morning. I chose these two shows due to the fact they aired at approximately the same time, on the same day, and therefore were in direct competition. Additionally Fox news is generally regarded to be a conservative based network, while NBC and their affiliates are generally considered to be influenced by liberal ideas.…

    Media Bias In America

    • 283 Words
    • 2 Pages

In America, there is media bias because ratings tend to increase when the attention span is more focused on the issues at hand. For instance, people would much rather documentaries or visuals involving chaos and violence rather than a humanly interview. Therefore, media becomes biased because the chosen headliners and stories are consumed with drama which draws larger audiences. On the other hand, political views as portrayed in the news are more likely to be liberal than conservative. Although there is little evidence to support this claim, the political views in different forms of media are usually liberal dependent on social issues such as feminism, gay rights, and welfare. Depending on the carrier of media, a company such as Fox News or CBS might edit the actual news in order to fit their persona or political views behind the company.…
