Myself, believe that its important but, I also see the other side of the argument. Many people believe that immigration of foreign people is a bad thing. This can be true if you see that a highly talented and trained individual is leaving often a third world country that NEEDS the medical professionals. I worked with a doctor for
a short time that left Pakistan with is mother due to the abuse that they both endured. He was a young man unwilling to treat his mother and other woman to the standards his community and father had set. He and his mother are both health professionals contributing to the communities they serve and they are living the "American Dream".
I asked once if he would ever go back and help his community in which he grew up and he just replied "no."
So, could a whole could America produce enough healthcare providers to care of the public? Could America come up with advances in medicine to treat the population as a whole if cut off from the research in other countries?
In Israel today, there is a study being conducted on many willing patients with pot (cannibus) to naturally treat ailments. This would not happen in the US but, later if studies conclude positive results then the US would use those findings to either recreate the results or make advances on them most likely for a profitable "Treatment".
So, as a whole the medical research field relays on other studies because, the government in the US is so strict on what trials can be done and on what.
Personally, I would argue that yes it is good for the US and the medical advances but, I wish there was a simple idea to have talented highly educated doctors helping more in other countries also not, just when an epidemic happens.
