Okay, I must sound ridiculous right now, because who tf theorises about a lamp that is supposed to be a fucking joke? But I’ve been thinking about it for awhile, just hear me out.
Basically, the player starts playing the game with two main assumptions, that turn out to be wrong in the end:
• the player and the character are the same person.
• the player names their character.
And what else do we assume? We assume that the first time we play is also Frisk’s first run.
Question: How do we know we’re not wrong again?
Now, you see, Sans is one of the few characters that seems to have knowledge about timelines to some extent. He keeps count on how many times you’ve battled him, he keeps photos and notes …show more content…
Becuse the soulless genocide can be and is explained by this act, which happens after selling Frisk’s soul.
But the first genocide run? Does Frisk just suddenly turn evil? Is it boredom? There is a lot open to interpretation, and Flowey hints at some things, but I believe that Flowey’s saves and resets are meant to be a parallel to the player, not Frisk, nor Chara. After all, he talks to the player after the true pacifist ending, not Frisk. So I’ve come up with an idea. (Not sure how accurate, probably not very much, but I’ll tell you anyway.)
So: Frisk falls for the first time, and they don’t have determination. Not originally. Frisk dies. Chara encounters them and lets Frisk take Chara’s determination. After all, Flowey is proof that there can exist raw determinatiom without a soul. Frisk doesn’t remember their first and most likely shortest run, as they didn’t have determination prior to encountering Chara. Assuming they met Sans, the conevniently shaped lamp proudly stands in the middle of Snowdin forest the next time they meet and Chara somewhat patiently narrates and describes the Underground to Frisk, as if waiting for something to happen. For Frisk to go berserk and give in to the dark side of Chara’s determination? To their own curiosity? …show more content…
tl;dr: Maybe the Frisk-Chara-determination part is a bit of a stretch, but I firmly believe, that the fist time I played Undertale wasn’t the first time for Frisk. There had to be at least one non-genocide pre-canon run. This is Undertale. Every word, every line and every pixel is planned and I bet that the conveniently shaped lamp is more than just a
