All heroes, in different texts share common characteristics, no matter what time or culture they come from. Many of the qualities, common in a hero, are shown through the protagonist. For example, Coraline displays bravery, curiosity and determination throughout the novel. Stories contain messages that can teach us new things or act as warnings. In ‘Coraline,’ there are messages revealed. Examples include: to be careful with strangers, to listen to the wise and to not go into the unknown. These are examples of morals which are messages created by characters making mistakes and learning from them. From these messages, the audience can learn and not make the same mistakes or they could guess and prepare for any possible dangers ahead. They can also learn that it is okay to mistakes, otherwise, we will not learn much. By being able to recognise and learn from these critical messages, we can be better
