daughter is in pink a combination of red and white. This shows her being torn apart between the passion and the purity.
While, on the other hand, the Oath of Horatii and the death of Socrates by Jacques-Louis David though belonging to the same neoclassical style of art is different from that of the work of Angelica Kauffman. The two paintings show patriotism and sacrifice, bravery and power. Yet, it has that emotional factor in it. You can see in the painting the posture of the three Horatii young brothers ready to sacrifice themselves for their Rome. They are upright stance and their well-toned bodies showing off their power. At the left we can see the women leaning on each other, one belonging to the enemy but is married to one of the Horatii brother, the other being a Horatii but engaged to one of the enemy. Their passive posture shows the emotions they are going through. Then it’s the Death of the Socrates, He has been given a death penalty for his crimes of not believing in the same God as the other people and is in jail. Even though he can save himself from the punishment but he is staying true to his beliefs, his finger pointing upward showing just that. His posture is straight and strong depicting power. His followers are all distraught and distress, some trying to stop him, some cursing and praying looking upwards, and some trying to hide their emotions by hiding their faces.
