Correct Behavior in School
Ways to Treat Each Other

At schools you have the power to control how you treat others, but not always how others treat you. Here are some tips on how to deal with people that you do not necessarily like or get along with.

Schools are just training grounds for the real world. But no matter how hard you try, you cannot please everybody. Believe me I have tried. One way to ease the thoughts of others is to treat them with respect. Respect is one of those terms like “love”, whose definition depends on a great deal on the mind frame of the person who you are talking to. Have you ever heard the term “To earn respect you must give it first”? My personal feeling is that you should automatically treat someone with respect, until that person proves that they don't deserve it. The way you treat people can make them like you or hate you; respect or criticize you. That is all up to you.

Another way on how to treat people is to remember other people’s feelings. There are always going to be people in your life that irritate, and annoy you. For example a younger sibling. As to why they do and say the things they do I don’t know. Sometimes you want to snap back at them about how annoying they are, or ignore them because you don't particularly like them, but remember, you have to be considerate of how that person feels and why they do and say certain things. Before you can judge, you need to understand that person's feelings and thoughts.

Finally the last tip I have for you is to just to be and act like yourself. If you don’t act like yourself sooner or later it will catch up to you and you won’t like who you became. From knowing people who have gone through this I can tell you that they end up depressed and sometimes talk about suicide. Don’t let this be you.

Ultimately try to “treat others as you would want to be treated”. If it doesn’t work out with that particular person than who cares, just try and move on to the next person and give it

The language and terminology you use when around children can have a major impact on their attitude towards other people. You need to realise that you are a role model to children and that they may copy everything you say and do. It is important to adapt communication to include all children. In my class the children are always greeted with a smile, good morning and how are you today. Some of the children have news to tell us. I get down to their level and have eye contact and listen to what they have to say. I always show interest in what they are saying as it boosts their confidence and shows that you care. When talking to the children I use the level that the child I’m talking to can understand as some of them you have to use short sentences as they can’t handle to much information. When talking to adults I always speak clearly and use positive body language like smiling. I’m always friendly to all member of staff or anyone I come into contact with. The school has an open door policy so parents/carers are always popping in and I know a lot of them.…

Growing up, my parents pushed me to be the best I could be. They let me make mistakes and used them as teachable moments. They taught me the importance of work ethic, reliability, and trustworthiness. Being reliable and trustworthy is important in both personal and work relationships. They also taught me to be kind. I strive to be kind to everyone, and treat them with respect. I try look at situations from someone else's point of view. We never know what is going on in someone else's life, so I feel it is better to treat them with kindness and respect versus being rude or disrespectful. If someone is having a bad day, I don't want to make it any worse. As I got older, I came to the quick realization that not everyone's views are the same. My parents taught me to accept people for who they are and not to hold it against them when they have do not have the same views as I do. One thing we all have in common is that we are human. We should treat each other with the respect and dignity that we would like to be treated with.…

I have many situations in school, which annoy me a lot. For example in class, I try to concentrate on my work and listen to the teacher. But then everyone calls my name, and asks me to explain something. Especially this happens in maths classes. Our teacher gives us some exercises to do. I sit on my place, and start to do them, but then everyone asks me to help them. My classmates call my name at the same time, and I don’t know whom should I answer. So that’s one thing which annoys me.…
