Moreover, Allstar Brands' Allround product is one of the highest market share leaders in the over-the-counter (OTC) cold and allergy remedy market. Therefore, the persistent success of the Allstar brand in regards to the profits and sales previously formed, has made it a crucial component of the Allstar’s Pharmaceuticals Division's long-term strategic plan. Specifically, Allstar brand targets young men and women with children experiencing cold and allergy symptoms. A more difficult strategy that also focuses on customers who have purchased the product is to target competitors’ customers (Winer & Dhar, 2016, p. 39). Allstar Brands' Allround product holds a strong position in the over-the-counter cold and allergy remedy market by being the market share leader, but there is no guarantee this trend will continue. Allround recognizes the need to continue to diversify and reformulate its current product line in order to remain competitive in light of an influx of competition. Allround competes in one of four product categories in the OTC market with no emphasis in the cough, allergy, or nasal categories. We will be better enabled to meet the desires and needs wanted most by consumers by enhancing the current Allround product line.…

As the brand manager for OTC cold medicine group, my primary objective was to capitalize on marketing opportunities using Allstar’s identified strengths and weaknesses combined with the identified market threats and opportunities. Allstar’s singular product, Allround, is the market leader and the brand historically has had success in terms of profitability and sales. Allstar Brand’s single product line accounted for 40.4% of the cold product category of the market and 23.8% of the total OTC cold medicine market. However, Allstar management had, rightfully so, become concerned with the competitive nature of the OTC cold remedy market. Senior management suspected that competitive activity would lead to declining market share and profitability…

Allstar Brands' Allround product is the market share leader in the over-the-counter (OTC) cold and allergy remedy market. The consistent success of the brand in terms of profitability and sales has made it a critical component of the Pharmaceuticals Division's long-term strategic plan. The division anticipates that the brand's cash flow in the coming periods will allow the company to pursue new opportunities in emerging markets. However, the division manager responsible for Allround has become concerned with the competitive nature of the OTC cold remedy market. In the past three periods, the industry has seen several product introductions as well as major increases in promotional and advertising expenditures. There is concern among senior management that this competitive activity will lead to declining market share and profitability for Allround. The brand has lost one full share point in the last period. We particularly paid attention to our product portfolio so that there is one core product with stable financial performance to support future new product promotion. Our product portfolio includes 3 brands called ALLROUND, ALLROUND+ and ALLRIGHT and each brand focuses on different market segment with clear differentiation in order to minimize the cannibalization effect. ALLROUND is a core product targeting both cold and cough illness and also a market leader throughout all 8 periods. It successfully acted as a Cash Cow to sustain the growth of the company. In Period 4 we had a product line extension ALLROUND+ to capture part of price sensitive cold market. In Period 6, we decided to enter the allergy market by launching a new product called ALLRIGHT with unique drowsiness free feature. Since then, ALLSTAR product series covers all the OTC market.…

Survey research is an important technique to measure consumer characteristics and opinions. The survey sample is defined as the survey demographic was any “customers” of Wal-Mart that shopped within stores. The type of survey administered chosen was a non-probability sampling survey, which is convenient for the customer to fill out on his or her terms. The collection process was identical to the distribution; through hand-to-hand transactions, mail-in, or while shopping online. The sample was a group of shoppers that totaled 10 stores in different regions, 50 per store. Once the…

In order to effectively undertake market research on customer behaviour; such as expected prices, how they react to certain methods of research and what kind of care do the customers expect after the purchase is made, it would be best to use observation along with focus groups. Surveys, if used, should be done face to face by door knocking as it is more convenient and has a high response rate. The survey should include quantitative and qualitative type’s questions in order to get a `broader view of the customers’ behaviour. Questions could include “What do you think affects your behaviour within store?” for open ended qualitative questions and for quantitative they could be something like “How long do you expect to wait on hold for customer services?” which will give more precise data.…

It was a right strategy for Eli Lilly that started a joint venture with Ranbaxy to enter the Indian market. First of all, Ranbaxy was the second largest pharmaceutical company that manufactures bulk drugs and generic drugs in India, with a domestic market share of 15 per cent. It had established broad distribution network, and it was the second largest exporter of all products in India. The common cold is one of the most common sicknesses, however we still do not have a cure for it. The only way that we can manage its symptoms is through dextromethorphan, also known as DM, which is the main ingredient in cough syrup. The medicine works by inhibiting the NMDA receptors in the cough center of the brain, and then suppresses the urge to cough. It acts as an antagonist to Glutamate and Glycine agonists, which when bound to NMDA allows the center to transmit signals that cause the person to feel pain or couch. DM takes Glutamate or Glycine’s spot on the NMDA reactor and prevents any signal from being transmitted, inhibiting the need to cough. DM is not all positive however, as it is a potential narcotic, eliciting similar effects to opium and can be abused.…
