The collision between the ship and the iceberg could have been avoided. The crew may have panic and cost the ship everything. “ ‘Now a new and controversial account has emerged. Lady Louise Patten, the granddaughter of the most senior surviving officer on the Titanic, Charles Lightoller, claims that the ship had time to miss the iceberg – but the helmsman, Quartermaster Robert Hichens, panicked and turned in the wrong direction. According to Patten, this was down to confusion about the two steering systems in operation at the time: rudder orders for steamships, and tiller orders for sailing ships.” (Titanic's last hours, 2). There are even some survivor who believe that this whole thing could have never happen. “‘Late on the 14th it was planned the vessel would put more speed on but none the next day. There are theories that The White Star Line, which was the company of the Titanic, had another boat called the Olympic and that really was the Titanic. The theory is that they switched boats before the voyage and put the Titanic logo on the Olympic so that they would lose all of their money that they invested in the olympic, and so when it sank they could collect insurance money. “ A man named James Fencen who worked on the ship said on his deathbed ‘ the Titanic didn’t sink that day the Olympic did.’ He survived the sinking of the ship and once him and the rest of the crew that survived stepped on land people from the government were there.
