Lymon was first seen on page six when he hobbled into Cheehaw claiming to be Miss Amelia’s cousin “The man was a stranger, and it is rare that a stranger enters the town on foot at that hour”. Strange is what they should have called him, for there was most definitely nothing ordinary about this man “He was scarcely more than four feet tall and he wore a ragged, dusty coat that reached only to his knees. His crooked little legs seemed to thin to carry the weight of his great warped chest and the hump that sat in his shoulders.”(6-7). Lymon had a very endearing presence in the novella “It was as though he had lived in the town for years, was a well-known character, and had been sitting and talking there on that guano sack for countless evenings.” (20). He had become a part of the town, in a way that if he bluntly said something odd or obnoxious it was accepted not questioned. Lymon was always in the spotlight and he was kind of hard to ignore “The hunchback was still a novelty and his presence amused everyone.” (22). He would strut around the café like he owned the place, being a busy-body and instigating drama.
