Dear Mr Paulsen
I’ve read your book: Hatchet, and I have to say that I’m pretty amazed of it, the story was so well written and easy to pick up and read, and when you started, it was pretty damn hard to stop. I think the idea of crashing in the middle of nowhere with only one tool to survive with was kind of cool.
My favourite part in the book was, to me, when Brian had to fight with the wolf who attacked him. It was a nailbiter, definitely. I also liked the very part when he had to rudder the train himself after learning from the pilot who was actually steering that plane before he crashed. It was not so fun that the pilot died but it was good for the story.
This, to me, is not a very believable story. Surviving a crash and surviving for what was it? Nine months? That’s crazy! But I guess that was necessary for the story to be worth reading.
The ending, that he survived all of that is just incredible, and it was a big relief to see the boy succeed after all that terror, I mean, being “trapped” for so long would destroy someone’s mind, being alone for all that time, it’s quite impressive.
Brian reminds me of the character from the movie: Castaway, Chuck Noland who has to survive alone on an island after a horrible plane crash. He makes up a friend, Wilson, who’s made of a volley ball Chuck found on the island.
All in all, I think you made a great job with this book and I’ll maybe read the sequel if I get time, I really appreciate your work and I hope you continue writing books of this format.
