The saga of old Geo. Ochenski continues. As Geo. sat on his rock, watching the Cadillac, getting smaller and smaller, until it was just a dot on the horizon before it disappeared over the hilltop. He sat there for some time, with his head in his hands. Contemplating, about what the elderly gentleman had said. As wheels of the mind began to turn the gears of thought, 'old Geo could almost hear them groan' from lack of usage. Suddenly the old 25 watt incandescent light bulb, lite up. Somewhere in the dark shadowy corners of his mind, stirred an almost unheard of phenomenal, reasoning was taking place. In panic Geo almost shelved it in disbelief. Slowly, oh so very slowly it came to the front of his mind. But, in the dim light of the 25 watt bulb, Geo was unable to understand it. Geo shook his head, in an effort to clear it. But, as with most things, Geo tried to do, it ended in failure. In shaking his head, Geo had accidentally turned on, the other 25 watt bulb on the right side of his brain, which he almost never used. As the light became brighter, Geo was slowly able to make out the printing in bold red, black and blue crayon, the words on the jello (sic) paper he was holding. It said, in bold…

In the nature of the winter season there is much to hear, see, and feel, in many different places of the world. However, in Louisiana, winters are quite different compared to a winter in New York. These winters do not cover the houses and streets with snow, but they still exceptionally cold. Mornings are frosty and the sun barely shines. In the evenings the weather becomes colder but, the sun get brighter by every minute. This contradicting climate causes Louisiana's state animals, black bears, rabbits and skunks, to go into hibernations. While, others like rabbits, armadillos, possums and deer roam about freely ignoring the freezing conditions.…

About noon, on the fifth day of their journey, Charity told Uriah to stop the wagon. Looking around, Uriah did not see anything in particular that caught his attention and did not know why she wanted him to stop; as far as he could tell, there was not anything they needed there. And, his mother had not gotten off the wagon to go do her business or said anything about eating lunch. So, after bringing the horses and wagon to a complete halt, he turned to Charity and asked, “Why did you want me to stop?”…

The crumbling leaves swayed, as the winter air crashed against his home. Walking towards his farm, William became uncomfortably aware of his surroundings. He grew up in this town, spending his days working and adventuring in every niche of the area. For an eighteen year old, his journey of life was monotonous. He endeavoured to peregrinate and advance his life- but his next journey was one that caused a nauseous, yet prideful feeling in the pit of his stomach.…

Maine’s geography affects population distribution and employment opportunities because we have a coast next to the ocean. This means that we have the opportunity to be able to fish and lobster where as if we lived in another state not near the coast we wouldn’t be able to employ or have the opportunity to do this. We are quite fortunate for this but it also brings some challenges. One being that we have a certain amount of time to catch all the fish and lobster that is needed. There is a tight schedule due to the seasons changing and there is only a set amount of time to catch what is needed. The thing about Maine that gives it it’s greatest advantage is that it is the closest to Europe.…

Fighting temptation describes a battle that is as much spiritual as it is emotional or physical. To be tempted is not a sin. Everyone is tempted and at different levels. Even Jesus was tempted! Temptation happens when the opportunity is presented to do what we know is wrong, whether against God, ourselves, or others. Being tempted is not wrong - it's the decision to do wrong and the corresponding action that follows.…

I clumsily loped my way over to him and grabbed his ankles. I turned and started dragging him to the tent, digging my feet into the ground. A lioness’s strength poured through me. Adrenaline surged through my blood, giving me the power I needed to carry a 180 pound man (with gear on). I reached the tent, a mere 20 or so feet away. I bent down and lifted him slowly onto a low table, about two feet off the ground. He grunted in pain.…

It was five o’clock in the morning, still dark and freezing cold. Silence filled the air, the only sounds made were screeching screams and cries for help. The guards walk past every ten minutes to ensure no inmates have escaped or harmed themselves in any way. After being here at Goulburn Correctional Center for just over fifteen years now, I know every rabbit hole, emergency exit and surveillance areas around this place. The key to survival here is; don’t make friends with anyone, don’t look anyone in the eyes and don’t eat the food unless you have to. My first thought every morning when I wake up is my two beautiful twins, James and Vanessa. The last time I saw them was 2002. Even though they were young when I was convicted, they have grown…
