Creative Writing: Sacrifice
Sam gasped when she felt the bonds fall from her wrists and feet. Loki helped her to sit and a blanket appeared to cover her. The angry and incensed god turned slow to face his followers. A snap of his fingers had Connor’s father before him and bound in chains- the same chains that had earlier held his son. A wave of his hand had the exits sealed closed. Sam took a measure of satisfaction in the panicked murmurs around the group.

“You have one opportunity now, godhi, to tell me why I was called to see a ritual sacrifice of fear and death instead of joy and good fortune. Anything less than the truth sends you to see my daughter personally within the hour.” Loki growled.

The man knew it. As gods did, Loki read between the lie and had even searched the mans thoughts. His son had been murdered out of jealousy and rage.

“I’m less than pleased. You’ve shed innocent blood in my name. I’ll never deny a blood sacrifice… a willing blood sacrifice! You’ve taken a maiden against her will. You’ve tied her to an alter of wood and forced her to watch that boys death. If you bothered to learn, I do not deny virgin sacrifices… willing ones.”

The man whimpered. “Mercy, my lord. Please…”

“Mercy?! You ask me for mercy when you’ve denied your son the same wish! I am your god! you ask mercy of me after what you have done?! In my name no less! No. There will be no mercy tonight, Godhi, for you or yours! My judgment is final.”

Silence filled the room as all eyes trained to the god. He only smirked. Sam got the impression Loki liked the attention.

“Death. Hel will be pleased.”

Gasps and screams filled the cave as Loki’s form twisted into that of a great serpent like creature with the head and body of a dragon, wings of an eagle, paws of a great lion and having the tail of a giant scorpion. Sam had to cover her ears to drown away the sounds of bones snapping, screaming and blood spilling to the stone floor. She knew she’d be sick if she listened much
