Creative Writing: The Day Of The Dead
It was a clear, dark night, everything was calm which was out of the ordinary evaluating the fact that the Cortez family lived in a very poor, crime-filled place in Tijuana, Mexico. Luis was the youngest in the household, which then came along his lovely, carrying sister Lizzy. Pablo is their very responsible dad, and Monica is their very determined mom. The whole family was planning on throwing a huge for Lizzy, which was turning fifteen on the month of October, it was a little terrifying because on this month it was “The day of the Dead.” Although the family had very action-packed ideas for the near future, but overall they were very low on money. When he got home he sat the whole family at their dining table, when he got done explaining to the family how a figure offered him a wish, the family thought he was crazy! Pablo angrily grabbed Luis by the ear and took him to his room. Pablo gave him a pep talk of how to deal with crazy people on the streets, which obviously he was making fun of. Luis then told his dad, what if it is true? As many hours passed by there was loud knock on their door, Luis went rushing down the hallway to see who it was, when he opened the door their was a delivery that said, “delivery for the Cortez family, is this you? Luis then called his dad and said, “dad come here.” When Pablo came to the door the delivery man handed him the package and walked away from the family’s home. Next Luis and Pablo grabbed a knife and cut the box open, they then came to a surprise of ten stacks of one-thousand dollars. Pablo was was in disbelief, all along he thought it was a joke. Meanwhile Lizzy and Monica were out trying to get money loans from family members, back at home there was ten thousand dollars ready to approach them. After a long day of asking for money to borrow they only ended up making about ten dollars due to their family members being as unwealthy as them. Lizzy was very mad and upset which caused her to go to the family’s local river and cry it out because that is the only place you could have some privacy without no one having to judge you. At the river, Lizzy seemed to be visualizing the same exact figure that gave Luis the money, almost as if it had always been there. At home Pablo and Luis were getting ideas of keeping the money to themselves and moving out of their miserable house without anyone suspecting a single thing. This meant that they were starting to get greedy ideas that does not describe the family. While Lizzy was at the river she felt the discomfort of

My division was stationed in Normandy, France, at the time of the Allied invasion on June 6, 1944. Toward the end of August or early September, Canadian troops captured me near Dieppe.10 I was with a small group of men who were cut off from our main company and overrun by motorized Allied units. For several days we wandered around searching for our unit, until one night we strayed into a field camp of Canadian soldiers. You can well imagine the astonishment all around when we suddenly appeared in their midst. The Canadians didn’t have a guard posted. This was probably better for all because otherwise we might have exchanged gunfire. Instead, we peacefully turned over our weapons and in return received cigarettes.…

How could he just treat us all like we were cattle as if it was nothing? The speedometer crept up to 60 miles per hour. Didn’t he care that people everywhere were starving? How could he do this? When he was elected he promised that he would Make America Great Again. 70 miles per hour. I had to get to the rally. We needed change, we could be that change. 80 miles per hour. My thoughts were interrupted as my eyes caught the reflecting glow of red and blue lights paint the night sky behind me. Crap. I pulled over and turned off the car, ready to feed the officer behind me a great line about how my grandmother was on her death bed and wanted me and only me to be at her side. My eyes shifted and glanced to the side mirror, the officer straightened out his already tucked in uniform and smoothed his hands over his hair as he made his way from his cruiser. Great, I thought. I wonder how many reprimands this stiff is gonna write me up for. My record already had 14 points on it for picketing, 6 more and I’d be in real trouble. He knocked on the window…

It was summer during the roughest times, so we mostly camped and made our way south along the Niagara River. A lot of folks went and joined the picket lines at the border and got themselves arrested. Others got booted from their homes once the crews started working, and almost overnight, Hamilton and St. Catharines stopped being safe. The properties along the border had all been bought and vacated, so we passed through without much problem and made camp in a rich-looking building called the Oban Inn. We set out our gear and found cans in some of the cupboards, and we watched the crews at their work across the river. The construction noise made it tough to sleep, and one of the guys found a bottle of something…

It was another terrible day. It has been more than five years since the zombie apocalypse began. Normally on a day like this, it would smell like flowers, and sometimes car smoke when cars passed by, but when the zombies came, it always smelled like a dead body. Outside, the only sound you heard were the dead wind, and a zombie would make a sound every now and then. The sky was rarely blue anymore, it was always a dark grey sky. Food now was very hard to find, and when you did find some, it tasted like dog food. Besides all of that, everything else was fine.…

When I entered inside the courtyard of the Wailing Wall I saw many people praying loudly and softly. They all wore a yarmulke. A yarmulke is a oval head cap used by the Jews. It looks like a white circle cloth. Anyone who comes near the wall has to wear a yarmulke, including myself. As I came closer to the wailing wall I looked at the cracks and noticed closely that there were many little notes inside of them.…
