I was focused on the start line ready for the first race of my track career. Not knowing at the time how running would have such a great impact on my life. Running has always run in my family (pun intended). I began running in elementary and developed a deep passion for running as I got older, and I have found a few reasons how the nerd culture and running go hand in hand. For the most part, running is an individual sport, which is perfect for the socially awkward nerds. Performance based stats can be intriguing, not to mention obsessive, and running nerds enjoy all of the science related running gear and software that also helps them improve. An additional perk to running is that it doesn’t require much time, and it is efficient. Running and nerds go together like Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. Running is a solitary business. Yeah, there are teammates and running buddies, but I am from a small town, and it’s not a very large running community. Most of the time I run by myself. When my thoughts become overwhelming I know I need to take my daily dose of running medication. Running is my opportunity to escape the everyday chaos of my busy life. If I ever go on a run and finish at my house in 6.87 miles, I am going to run the extra .13 miles. I also own a running log and write down my run or workout and include distance and pace. At the end of each week I total my miles and compare to previous weeks. Comparing week after week is preoccupying and becomes a game. After I return home from a race and some of my top competitors were absent, I go online and search for their results. Eventually, when I find the results I calculate the their exact mile pace and compare it to how I performed. There is software to order all of this
