Fitch, the idea of intersectionality comes when people were challenging the traditional tango dance. The traditional idea of this dance being between a man and woman is challenged when people started dancing with the same gender, bringing up the idea of homosexuality. Along with this, in the traditional dance, the woman is usually wearing a red dress, and this is challenged when people started to wear less formal clothes. Another idea, is that the people usually preforming this dance are young. Dr. Fitch brought up dancing tango with the elderly. The idea of intersectionality is when these different components of global tango are overlapped. Although it may seem like the word intersectionality has a bad connotation attached to it, the work of Dr. Fitch shows a better view of it. Because this dance has been globalized, it has been used to fight movements.
2Fik’s work on performance shows intersectionality through the characters that are created. Some characters are homosexual while others “break the label” that is assigned to them at birth. At the beginning of 2Fik’s presentation in class, the name 2Fik is identified to be an Arabic masculine name. Through the pictures that 2Fik take, 2Fik shows the personality and identities of the 15 characters that were created. Again, this example shows a better scenario of intersectionality and how even though these stereotypes and biases are used against a person, they are able to change that and turn it into something
