In season twelve, Reid’s methods especially stuck out when he was forced into an evasive situation where his life was at stake. In police custody himself, he got the ability to question the mastermind behind the season’s design by targeting her emotions and saving his mother. He used reverse psychology, a technique with the belief that’s opposite than what’s desired. He focused on the unsubs romantic emotions, persuading her to confess her profound love to him. He convinced her everything would work out in the end if she just did as he said, and when he eventually got the answer he’d been looking for he simply got up and left the room.
