WEEK 4 ASSIGNMENT SHORT CRITICAL REFLECTION PAPER

(1) Online education has evolved over the last ten years as much as the cell phone. Given this, what have been some of the major improvements and changes in the digital classroom? If someone had told me ten years ago that I would be going back to school at this age I would have laughed at them. Not only I am in the process of obtaining my college degree at forty, I’m pursuing this goal on an online environment. This just goes to show the major improvements and changes in the digital classroom. The number one

Always read everything before you post it. Have respect for people by not sharing other classmates personal information. It’s also important to maintain a professional environment. Bowles states that “opinions are important to share but do not make posts a stage from which to broadcast your personal views of life.’’ (Bowles, 2010, p.14). It is also quite obvious to not distribute pornography and/or slanderous materials. Finally the most important strategy to prevent flaming is to not involve yourself in unnecessary and vicious debates. It would be a case for stealing only if I the owner of that poem had a legal copyright to that particular work. It may not be my poem in the first place. I could have done the same thing this other person did (copy and paste from someone else’s site). If it my original work, and I hold a copyright to it, this copyright would have to have set limitations on it. Meaning if someone in the public domain wants my poem and use it for their creative expression for themselves, they can use it without having to ask permission each time as long as I get credit for that original

Description I was asked by a nursing assistant to assist a resident to eat. Her food consisted of pureed fruit and thickened cordial. The elderly resident was unable to communicate and appeared to be unaware of her surroundings and she also fell asleep several times. I was unsure of how much food to offer in each spoonful and may have given her too much as she occasionally coughed. When assisting her to eat I was instructed to sit her up but did not sit her far enough forward as I found out later, while reading her patient record, she needed to be at a ninety degree angle when eating.…

This article, “The RU-486 Abortion Pill Should Be Available to Women”, was written by Laura Fraser in 2001 for the Greenhaven Press. The issue involved with this article is whether or not the RU-486 abortion pill should be available to women in the U.S.. The conclusion Fraser came up with was yes, the RU-486 abortion pill should be available to women in the U.S., and for plenty of reasons. For example, if mifepristone becomes available, it will remove political and practical barriers so women can get abortions and physicians will not have to perform complete abortions. Also, 54% of all…

I have always felt like I am too old to return to school. According to "Taking the Next Step" (2012), the amount of people that are returning to school has and will dramatically increase. “When I got a graduate degree at 30, I was far older than most of my peers. But mature students are the wave of the future. By 2007, more than a third of people studying for an associate’s or higher degrees were 25 and older. By 2017, the ranks of these older students are expected to grow 20 percent, according to the US Department of Education”. (para. 1). I have been working for the past twenty five years in my field and have always wanted to return to college. I thought about my decision many times during the years. I always regretted not taking the time to return to college. Family and friends have said to me why do you need this degree so late in life? Some have said why spend the money?…

I recently found a list of goals that I had written 20 years ago. Most of the goals were realistic and I was able to achieve them. While I was checking the items off my list that I accomplished, there was one that I have debated about for many years—returning to school to earn a degree. Returning to school has always been achievable; however, as each year of my life sped by and I got older, I always came up with more and more excuses as to why I should not return to school. One day I received a course catalog in the mail showing online classes at the college. I decide that an online class would be the first step to my future. I am so grateful for the first day of that class. All the excuses and delays regarding returning to school were in vain. It is amazing the different prospective I know have about being a child verses an adult in school.…

After reading my first critical reflection paper the one thought that keeps scrolling in my brain is, “how naive I have been concerning IVP/domestic violence”. I remember not wanting to “label” myself as a “victim” because “I am and was not ever a VICTIM!” I was strong and able to leave that relationship so how does that make me a victim? How naive for me to think in that manner. I like to rename this “Critical Reflection Paper II, to “Enlightenment Paper”. I also have been taught a new word to replace “victim”, I am a survivor! My experience may not have been as sever as others but just the same, I am a survivor if IVP. I recall in our text, chapter 2 pg. 29, “Women’s perceptions and reactions to abuse, as well as the help available to them, are influenced by the lens through which they see the world and the intersectionality of the different cultural influences on their lives” (Lockhart, L., and Danis, F. 2010). Our experiences are defined by how we see the world, not…

In this task I will be reflecting upon an incident undertaken on area of my work. The model of reflection I’ve chosen is Gibbs (1988), which involves reflection on the description, feelings, evaluation, conclusion and action plan (Gibbs 1988). The Gibbs (1988) reflective cycle is fairly straightforward and encourages a clear description of the situation, analysis of feelings, evaluation of the experience, analysis to make sense of the experience, conclusion where other options are considered and reflection upon experience to examine what you would do if the situation arose again. The procedure in which I will be reflecting upon is Last offices; I chose this due to how constructive and valuable it was in my personal and professional development as a student practitioner nurse.…

As nervous as I was when I walked into Saint Joseph Catholic School (K-8) for my first day of kindergarten, I never thought I would be able to leave after 6th grade and enter the world of middle school. In a small school of about 400 kids, I was familiar with every face that passed by me in the hallway. I got to know the kids in my grade so well and we all knew each other’s life stories. By the time I was in 6th grade at Saint Joseph, some of my friends were planning on going to Kinard middle school in 7th grade. At this point in my life, I was not completely content with where I was going to school. The realization came to me that it was time to move on. It was time for me to try something new.…

It is astonishing that my journey through English class has come to a close. My path has been a smooth and enjoyable one, and it is with great sadness that I begin to gather up the ends of my literary education. I know that I will continue to grow and develop as a critical reader/thinker throughout my life, but I will miss the educational structure that has shaped my literary understanding for the last year.…
