Criticisms of the Affordable Care Act
Criticisms of Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) had existed even before the bill was passed into law. Some experts are even calling for its repeal. The
basis of their claims is the legislation has not delivered on its mandate. On the contrary, critics forward that the policy has escalated the cost of health care. Another claim is that Obamacare has contributed to unpredictable decision making. Furthermore, bureaucracy in the health care sector has worsened yet is one of the key areas of the economy. Critics have also cited infringement of religious rights and personal freedom as an adverse side effect of the bill. Spending at both the federal and state level on health care has risen as has taxation.
The design of the policy has also fallen into disfavor with its opponents. The critics have forwarded that the design was defective. On the flip side, most laws are not always perfectly designed and undergo numerous amendments to operationalize. The subsidy schemes have also been faulted as being complicated making their implementation an arduous task. Six years after its enactment, opponents of Obamacare cite that it has placed an inordinately larger financial burden on the population. Seeing that the average American family spends 35% of its earnings on healthcare, any increments beyond this will be frowned upon.
