Crucible Act 2 Scene 8
In this scene, Tom leaves to the fire-escape and ponders on where he grew up. Amanda eventually joins Tom where they apologize and forgive each other. Tom then tells Amanda that a man named Jim O’connor is coming over for dinner tomorrow night. Amanda is absolutely ecstatic with this news, but she is also nervous that she will not have enough time to clean the place in time. Tom tells Amanda not to get too excited because Jim is not coming to exclusively meet Laura. Tom also says that Laura is crippled and socially awkward. The most important part of scene five is that Laura is finally going to meet a guy. This is great for everyone because Amanda and Tom forgave each other, and Laura can finally get out of her anxiety shell and finally meet …show more content…
Tom was star at everything in high school, yet Jim and Tom have almost the same exact jobs. Amanda is busy getting Laura ready for her date. Amanda gives Lara a dress that she wore when she was young. Amanda then mentions Jim’s name and Laura realizes that it is the same Jim she liked in high school. When Jim arrives, Laura is forced to awkwardly greet him at the door. Jim and Tom begin to talk about their futures hile the women are away. Tom explains to Jim that he is planning on making a huge change in his life. Laura refuses to eat dinner because she is ill. She is really just too shy to eat dinner with her …show more content…
Laura reminds Jim that they went to highschool together. Jim doesn’t remember until Laura reminds him of her nickname “Blue Roses.” Laura then asks Jim about the girl he was engaged to. Jim says that he wasn’t actually engaged. Laura then goes on to talk about her glass figures she so dearly loves. Laura and Jim begin to dance, then they eventually kiss. Then Jim says that he is involved with another girl and that he is getting married soon. While Amanda is disappointed, she wishes him a good farewell. Amanda gets mad at Tom for bringing a man who was engaged. Tom insists he didn’t know they were engaged. Tom ends the play explaining that he was fired from the warehouse soon after, and that he left his family to explore the world.
