Document 4 states that due to the destruction the Byzantine empire as a political unit never recovered. Moreover, the assault of one Christian people on another, When one of the goals of the Fourth Crusade was reunion of Greek and Latin churches, made the split between the Greek and Latin churches permanent.
This is interesting because in the fourth Crusade wasn't reunion of the Greek and Latin churches the churches would of never been permanently split. If they weren't permanently split then they could've start fighting to.
Document 2 states that Merchants in Venice and other northern Italian cities built large fleets to carry Crusaders to the holy land. They later used those fleets to open new markets in the Crusader states.Even after the Muslims had recaptured the city of Acre so Italian merchants kept those trade routes open. Our words sugar, cotton, rice and muslin which were borrowed from Arabic show the the range of trade goods involved.
This is important because if they stopped trading then they would not get better goods by trading their cotton and sugar. If they didn't get better goods than they might of gone to war trying to take their goods.
This paragraph proves that the Crusades was more negative than positive by showing what would happen if they stopped trading.
The 4th Crusade was an wasteful; and destructive event that resulted only in further dividing the christian world.
Document 6 states that The byzantine government went into exile in Nicaea and continued to fight the Latin occupiers until 1261 when they recaptured their capital. After the fourth Crusade, crusading lost much of it's appeal for most Europeans.Jerusalem remained under Muslim control.
This is (important/interesting/relevant) because if the Europeans kept fighting instead of losing their appeal than the rest of the Europeans can't win all the fights so than they might get there land taken over.
Document 7 states that Despite all the efforts maintaning these crusader kingdoms was difficult. To begin with there numbers were small. They were very dependant on western Europe for supplies and soldiers. To make matters worse, the crusading knights often abused and committed atrocities against eastern Orthodox Christians, Jews, and Muslims in the areas through which they have passed.
This is (important/interesting/relevant) because the paragraph is showing that from the Crusades people are numbers are growing very small. The knights were also abused often.
In these Paragraphs I showed why the 4th Crusade was wasteful and destructive. Restate DBQ question, restate your thesis, wrap it up (3-4 sentences)
In this writing I proved why the Crusades was more negative than positive.During the Crusades there was a lot of destructiveness to cities. Also during the Crusades a lot of people really gave in and stopped fighting while everyone fighted and that cities are more likely to be taken
over.
