Crusades Dbq

In the First Crusade, Christian knights that came from Europe went and capture Jerusalem. They had been massacring almost all the city’s Muslim and Jewish population. The reason this happened was because Christians were being persecuted in Jerusalem, because the Holy City was passed from Egyptians to Seljuk. A Pope called for a crusade to help Christians in the east and to recover the holy lands. And then people went over there immediately. A Crusade called “People’s Crusade” had went a far way with killing, to Constantinople, but they were soon killed after that. Then another crusade went in killing a lot more people than “People’s Crusade” ever did. This crusade was led by Raymond of Toulouse, Godfrey of Bouillon, Robert of Flanders, and
Bohemond of Otranto, the army of Christian knights crossed into Asia Minor in 1097. They then captured and defeated a massive amount of people. The crusade was also attacked constantly. The morning of June 3, 1098, Bohemond persuaded a Turkish traitor to open Antioch’s Bridge Gate. All of the warriors then attacked, the Christians killed thousands of their enemies. A little bit after that some of the Turkish people tried to take back their land but they were too weak and got defeated. They finally went to take over Jerusalem down, when the Christians got to the holy city they realized it was strengthened, they then built towers. After the towers were built they went on to passing through Jerusalem. Then another gate was opened and the Christians proceeded to knock that city down also. After that happened the Egyptians tried to take over the holy city but was defeated by the Christians.
