Middle Ages Europe in the Middle East were divided between Christian states and Muslim States. They were uneasy neighbors frequently at war. Byzantire Empire was the major Christian power of the Eastern Mediterranean. However, in the 11th century a powerful new force submerge and threaten its very survivor the Sel Jurk Turks-originally from Central Asia they migrated South converted to Islam and cast over a great Empire for themselves.
In 1071, the battle of Manzikert, the Sel Jurks Turks inflicted a crushing defeat over the Byzantire Empire. They wanted to conquer most of Anatolia-cities such as, Nicaea and Antioch. In 1092 the Great Sel Jurk's Sulton Malik Shahded died, thereby his empire began to fragment. The Byzantire Empire came under a new attack. In 1095, Byzantire's Emperor-Alexius I Komnenos wrote to Pope Urban II making a desperate appeal for military aid from his fellow Christian from the West. The results from the letter will be like anything ever seen before. Pope Urban saw the Emperor appeal as a golden opportunity-a chance to heal the rift that emerged between Western and Eastern churches in the Great Schism-1954. And to reclaim Christianity most Holy sites, most of all Jerusalem-lost in Muslim's rules 400 years before.
