Cultural Competence In Transcultural Nursing

The goal of TCNS is to increase the quality and knowledge of cultural competence in nurses and other health care workers in order to improve the health and well being for all people across the globe. Transcultural Nursing is a theory that emphasizes the study of the whole person. The basis of it’s teachings are on the fact that efficient care is reflected by valuing the core culture values of each individual.

- When I did by search on CINAHL, I typed in transcultural nursing as my keyword and I found 307 references.

- If you want to narrow your search to a specific cultural, ethnic, or minority group you could type in keywords such as blacks, ethnic groups, Muslim, Arab, medicine and Chinese traditions, Hispanics, Jews, or spiritual healing.
3. Cultural competence is the act of providing efficient care to a patient by respecting and understanding their cultural beliefs and values even if they differ from your own. I realized that I am not very educated on different cultures and their religions. While I was doing the self assessment, I found myself checking no to background for most of the various groups of people, which in turn caused me to realize I couldn’t be an advocate for that person either. In order to successfully achieve cultural competence, knowledge on various cultures is important to obtain. Having background knowledge on people’s cultures allows you to be a better advocate and provide more beneficial help to the
