the most impactful information on myself was how individuals in this community are still be treated so poorly in 2017. Particularly at work or lifestyle stuff, like having kids or getting healthcare. LGBT people are actually less likely to have health insurance than other people (Understanding, 2014, pg 5). One similarity I found to be across the board from the research, our textbook, and my interview, is that people being able to be themselves is extremely important. During my interview Isaiah, would keep saying how this was who he was and how he needed to be himself (Isaiah, 2017, personal communication). People just want to be listen to and understood. One thing I gained about diversity was that individuals in this group do not really see themselves differently. It becomes more apparent when others start to say stuff to LGBT members or any group in general. Also that this has always been them so it is hard to imagine being someone else and to also understand what is is like being a non-member of this group. One new question I have is what is holding us back and allowing all this hate to occur. I know it seems like a possible common question, but what is the sole reason for all this discomfort. We are all human and we all struggle daily, what makes us what to put further pain onto someone who has no control of that “issue” or “difference”?
