Therefore, Early Years Foundation Phase is delivered for children between the ages 3 and 7 years old.
The Scottish curriculum is called Curriculum for Excellence and covers the curriculum for 3 to 18- year-olds. It also delivers the early years learning together with Key Stage 1 as one level. The idea behind this is that if children are not ready to move on to Primary level, they remain on the early years level.
Lastly, in Northen Ireland children start the Foundation Stage from the age of 5 in Year 1 and Year 2. Then Key Stage 1 begins in Year 3 and is carried on through Year 4. The Foundation Stage emphasis on learning though play and similarly to Scottish model, children can move to Primary Stage only when they are ready to learn in more formal way.
