Did you know that more than 400,000 people die each year because of tobacco? That is why the 6th graders have DARE. DARE stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education. DARE is a program that teaches the 6th graders about drugs and violence and how to stop it. The three things that stood out to me in DARE were Tobacco, Bullying, and Peer Pressure. Tobacco is bad because it has nicotine that makes you addicted to it. It hurts you by giving you lung cancer and other cancers. Tobacco makes your friends and family mad at you because you are smoking. Another reason you should not do tobacco is because it has bad health effects it interferes with the way your brain works and it yellows your teeth. Bullying
is bad because it hurts the victim’s feelings. “Harassment and bullying have been linked to 75 percent of school-shooting incidents,” said Brain Williams anchor of NBC’s nightly news. We need to know that it is not ok. Bullying is mean, rude, and horrible and should be stopped as soon as you see it happening.
What surprised me about peer pressure is that it can be negative or positive. Peer pressure is good when your friend influence you to do something good. When it is bad when your friend influence you to do something bad that get you in trouble. Peer pressure comes in all times of life. In conclusion, we all know that bullying, peer pressure, and tobacco are awful, that is why DARE teaches this. I have been pressured to give answers to someone on a homework assignment. I did the right thing. I did not give the person the answers they needed. DARE has taught me so much over the last nine weeks.
