Summary Glenn Kenny wrote a review on the movie Daddy’s Home 2. The movie was directed by Sean Anders. The characters were written by Brian Burns and the movie was written by Sean Anders and John Morris. The Cinematographer was Julio Macat, editor was Brad Wilhite and the composer was Michael Andrews. The main actors in this movie are Will Ferrell who plays Brad Whitaker, the
stepdad, in the movie. Mark Wahlberg plays Dusty Mayron, the children’s much cooler dad, Brad and Mark are constantly fighting for the kids to like them better than the other one. Mel Gibson plays Kurt Mayron, Dusty’s dad, and John Lithgow plays Don Whitaker, Brad’s dad in the show. The movie is about Dusty and Brad’s dad’s coming to see them for the holidays and they are unhappy with the dad and stepdad relationship that has been formed to benefit the kids. So they try to drive a wedge in their relationship to mess up the somewhat peaceful family that is currently present when they first get there. They even go as far as to involve the kids in their scheme to “drive a wedge” in between their family.
Analysis This review was very informative to me. Kenny reviewed the content of the movie. Meaning the jokes and the language used to tell them. He compared this movie to the first daddy’s home movie made in 2015, saying that the humor has gotten less crude, and more funny. Kenny also talks about one of the characters Gibson and says that when he is on stage the movie was less funny, due to what he knows about his life. He doesn’t believe that Gibson was a good fit for the movie due to his off screen morals. Kenny says,”But watching him try to play a bullying character for laughs here left a bad taste in my mouth. His character here is a relentless womanizer, consistently targeting younger women. Knowing how this guy reacts in real life when he feels crossed by a younger girlfriend made it difficult for me to be amused by his portrayal of a grandfather who attempts to entertain some ten-year-olds by starting a joke “So two dead hookers wash up on shore…” And so on.” This quote I feel is very important because it shows exactly why he believes Gibson was a bad choice for the film. Kenny was trying to tell us that the movie was an ok, average, movie. He gave the movie 2 and a half stars due to the movie being a comedy and not being all that funny. He didn’t like the crude humor that was ever present in the movie. There were a few parts that he found entertaining, including parts that involved Brad’s clumsiness. Kenny wishes that the movie had made him laugh more and that Gibson like earlier stated was not in the movie. I feel like Kenny was trying to persuade the reader not to watch the film. Honestly, I do not believe that he did a good job with his persuasion. He described the good aspects of the movie more than what he didn’t like about the movie. I feel more interested in watching this movie after this review than I did when I first saw that they made a second movie. I have not yet watched this film but I am sure to watch Daddy’s Home 2 in the near future.
