The Outsiders Analysis

“Things are rough all over.”(Hinton 35).The novel, The outsiders, By S.E. Hinton is about a conflict of Ponyboy and his family having struggles as a Greaser. Being a Gang that is broken on, is a struggle that makes their lives hard and difficult. While Ponyboy always sees things in a positive way to keep going. S.E. Hinton’s theme “ Things are rough all over.” is evident in the struggles Greasers and Socs face. However the Greasers face more struggles then Socs because, they live in poverty, plus they don't have a great education, and even though the Socs get in trouble too, they get all the breaks.
The most important difference is that the Greasers live in poverty, while the Socs are rich and have their perfect little home. Ponyboy says “We’re poorer than the Socs and the middle class.”(Honton 3).This shows that the Greasers are poorer than anybody else.This also shows that the Greasers sometimes can't maintain them selves because they don't have money. Therefore, Greasers are too poor, and don't have it easy like Socs that have everything they desire.
Another difference is that Greasers don't have an education because most of them dropped out or don't have money to pay their studies. “But we just didn't have the money for him to go to college.”(Hinton 16).This shows that the Greasers don't always have the money to go to school. One reason is because the Greasers live in poverty and are even poorer than the middle class. Another reason is that the Socs get to have an education and go to school while the Greasers while some Greasers didn't even finish grade school. Even though the Socs do have struggles they are the ones that get the breaks. Overall, Socs get struggles but always get the breaks while Greasers have to struggle to find a place to live because they don't have money to
