Darkiron At Starheart Short Story
ETRAN DARKIRON LOOKED DOWN AT GEORGE. ‘Are you responsible for this boy,’ he rasped, motioning to the bodies scattered around the dais.
‘N…no,’ stammered George.
How could this be possible?
Darkiron had been dead for hundreds of years.
But even as he watched, Darkiron’s body seemed to grow in stature. In the flickering torchlight, George saw Darkiron’s muscles bunch beneath his skin, a skin that had started to take on a healthier glow. In the quiet of the cellar, George felt he could even hear the Baron’s heart beating once more, pumping blood through veins and arteries, feeding the organs and muscles below.
No, not dead, sleeping, and now that sleep had been disturbed. The magic of the Starheart was reviving him once more.
The Baron raised his sword, ‘You lie, I slept but for a moment, and when I awake all around me are slain.’

Now.’ George screamed, sending out a blast to follow Jessica’s. At the same time, Danielle sent another of the wind arrows flying towards him.
Assailed by the three separate magical attacks, Etran Darkiron staggered. He fell to one knee but once again he brought The Starheart up, waving it in an arc in front of him. The air around him wavered, forming an invisible barrier. Immediately Jessica and George’s magic was absorbed by the stones counter magic. Danielle fired another of her arrows at him, but like ripples in water, it dispersed on the magical shield.
‘We can’t get through, whatever it is he’s put up,’ George shouted.
‘It has to be the stone. He just needs to think about something and it happens,' Danielle speculated.
‘There has to be a way to get at him, we need that stone, keep trying,’ urged George. He concentrated harder pouring more ice at the Baron, trying to overload his shield. Jessica too fired blast after blast of searing heat at him, forcing him back.
‘He’s getting weaker…I think!’ Jessica exclaimed.
‘Yes. But so are we.’ George whispered beside her.
