As a teenager, We read about YA Literature in and out of school, Reading young adult literature expresses their feelings towards the book. Often, Us teenagers do not like going to our parents and asking for advice, I myself truly enjoy reading it. YA literature uses a wide array of themes as Sexuality, Depression, Drugs & Alcohol abuse, etc. Most teenagers go through a phase where they start doing drugs, and alcohol, Which sometimes turn into a bad error in their life. Some of us all don’t agree on the topic of YA literature, Some likes YA literature while others believes that it ruins teenagers. In Darkness Too Visible by Megan Cox believes that the classic books are better for kids. There’s nothing to be found in her books that compares to what kids can find through social medias and on the internet. Megan Cox responded in the article that teenagers should be reading more classical books instead of YA Literature.
The kids that are reading YA literature survived depression, attempted suicide, and gang warfare. Dozen of teenagers reads Sherman Alexie just so they can feel like themselves, and to know that someone is going through a situation too. As a teenager, I know how it feels to get pressured to do stuff that you’re unsure off. Sherman alexie wrote this book because he vividly remember what it felt like to be teen facing everyday and epic dangers. From the novel Night by Elie Wiesel, It was during the holocaust and it explained everything they went through just like YA literature. It shows the suffering, the coldness and the death, as in YA literature, it explains what depression and anxiety feels like. Night and YA literature may be two different thing but it still shows how the main character feels and what they went through just so you can get glimpse of what it felt
