The Sun is Also a Star is written by New York Times bestselling author, Nicola Yoon. The main characters in this story come from a family of immigrants. Daniel was born in America after his parents moved there from South Korea. His parents want him to live the “American dream”and become a doctor and graduate from Yale. Natasha is a teenage girl who illegally moved to America, from Jamaica, as a child. While reading this book, I enjoyed going on a journey with the quirky characters. This book has a great storyline, along with many enjoyable parts, and some parts that should’ve been left out, in my opinion. I would recommend this book for many people. If you enjoy reading John Green books, you would love to read The Sun is Also a Star. Both authors tend to write love stories with an epic twist. Usually, in love stories, the characters fall in love and live happily ever after. Green and Yoon both write unexpected endings. Young teens will love this book because of how relatable it is. There are teens in this book struggling to find their identity and to discover what they want to do when they grow up. Daniel, one of the main characters, is a passionate poet, but his parents want him to be a doctor. I think that many teens can relate to the feeling of having to please their parents. So, the readers would like to enjoy being able to connect with the characters and see how characters in the book cope with the same problems. I wouldn’t really recommend this book for kids because there are a lot of life situations that they wouldn’t be able to understand. For example, the struggles that a family of immigrants have might not be comprehended easily by kids. You need to be very mature to enjoy this book.
