In today’s day and age, there are many start-up companies and entrepreneurs that thrive off of imagination and innovation. This is what leads them to creations. Richard Paul Evans, a #1 New York Time Bestselling Author who writes both children’s and adventure books, channeled his imagination and innovation into the book Michael Vey: The Prisoner of Cell 25 which is a book that he made a series out of. This series made him a famous writer.
This book is about how a 14-year-old named Michael Vey that has electrical abilities such as the ability to shock people. He goes to school in Idaho with his best friend Ostin, who is extremely smart for his age, and another girl with similar electric abilities named …show more content…
Hatch. Michael is the protagonist in this story. The way that he discovers his powers throughout the book was really interesting to me. One of my favorite examples of this was when he was getting bullied by Jack and his friends. When they were about to pull down Michael’s pants “A surge of anger ran through my [Michael’s] body so powerful, I couldn’t control it. Suddenly, a sharp, electric ZAP! Pierced the air, like the sound of ice being dropped in a hot griddle.” I also like how he was so courageous in the book, which helped keep it interesting. This happened when his mom and Taylor were kidnapped and he wanted to go to Jack’s house, the guy that was bullying him, and asked him for a ride to the Elgen Academy, where they suspected his mom and Taylor would be.
Ostin is Michael’s best friend. According to Michael, “I suspect that Ostin was adopted, because I couldn't figure out how someone that smart could come from someone who couldn’t spell the name of the city she lived in.”Along with being a genius, he made for a very funny character because he was extremely socially awkward and had a crush on almost every girl that was a major character in the story, even Michael’s …show more content…
I think that her abilities are really cool and allow the author to show the readers what people in the story are thinking. She also has her own side of the story which is about her and her twin who was taught by Dr. Hatch that people with electric abilities, otherwise known as glows, should rule the world.
Dr. Hatch was the antagonist in the story. He helped Elgen Academy run and answered to a boss that was hidden throughout the book who I think will become more important throughout the next books. He taught all of the glows at the school that they deserved to rule the world and kill all regular humans as they are better than them. Because of his influence on others, he helps set up the big fight at the end of the book. I also like how his character was extremely mysterious.
In conclusion, I believe that this book is a great read and much like Taylor and Michael, the book is electric. I definitely recommend this book for anyone that is twelve and older, doesn’t enjoy reading, or just wants the escape the pressures of academics in school and outside of it. This is because it has an engaging plot and great, relatable character. Once you start reading the book you will make not want to put it down, as I didn’t, and will want to go on in the series as it has six books and is going
