The first theory to be seen in The Time Machine is the evolution of Humans over time. This is shown throughout much of the novel with the Eloi and Morlocks. The Eloi represent the humans that have evolved into a dominant race and eventually its own species. The Morlocks represent the poorer people that have evolved into huge beasts and have no mental capacity. …show more content…
This aspect of the book clearly represents problems in society that were going on during the time that the novel was written and even problems we still have to this day.
Another theory of Darwin's that is shown in the book is natural selection.
Natural selection is the theory that species with the most dominant traits will eventually strive due to their beneficial traits. An example of this was shown in the novel by the Eloi people. The Eloi were much better off than the Morlocks because they most likely had the means of making money and getting good education which led to them putting themselves in front of the poorer people. After millions of years, the rich and smart people became the Eloi and the poor people who could not afford a proper education became the Morlocks.
One last theory that was commonly shown in The Time Machine was Charles Darwin's theory of survival due to climate change. This theory states that species will or won't survive based on certain climates or will evolve to do so. The Eloi and Morlocks show this in the novel because the Eloi cannot survive exposed in the night due to the Morlocks hunting patterns and the Morlocks cannot survive in the daytime because they are deadly sensitive to light. These traits were most likely developed over time due to the different specie's homes being the climate they they can strive
in.
Overall, the novella portrays many different theories and aspects of Charles Darwin's studies. I believe HG Wells wrote the novel to warn people about what may come of societal separation due to financial status or race. The book shows how people acted towards people who they thought were lesser beings and used Darwin's theories, a common belief in society, to show that if people were to continue acting the way the do towards others, society will eventually fall to pieces.
