Setting:
* West Egg- the less wealthy side of Long Island. Gatsby lives on this part of the island even though he is extremely wealthy. This makes this setting significant because it makes it evident that Gatsby has not fully filled the shoes of a typical person that lives in East Egg like Daisy and Tom. * East Egg- the wealthy side of Long Island. Tom, Daisy, and Jordan are the characters that live here. This setting is significant because Gatsby is constantly staring at Daisy’s dock light across on her East Egg home. It is the sign of his desires to finally have Daisy once and for all. * Valley of Ashes- the area between West Egg and New York City. George Wilson and his wife Myrtle live here. At this location, Myrtle gets ran over by a car driven by Daisy. This ultimately leads to Gatsby’s murder followed by George Wilson’s suicide.

* Gatsby: * Description- main character of the novel. He comes from a poor background but rose to wealth after participating in organized crime, scams, etc. * Role- his role in the novel is to do everything in his power to attain his desires of finally having Daisy * Significance- his role is important because his desires led to a downward spiral of disaster in the novel. His desires led to the deaths of 3 people (including his own). In the event his desires did not consume his soul, the novel would have been completely different. * Nick: * Description- the narrator of the novel. He moves to New York to learn bond business. He lives in West Egg and his house is next to Gatsby’s.
