Philip Malloy is a track-obsessed ninth grader at Harrison High School in Harrison, New Hampshire. He has an English teacher, Margaret Narwin, and is doing very poorly in her class; he is given a D for his grade and is not allowed to try out for the track team. He does not tell this to his parents, and instead pretends that he no longer has an interest in trying out for the track team. Philip causes many distractions in Narwin 's class such as humming the national anthem. Eventually he is suspended from school by Dr. Joseph Palleni, the school 's vice principal.…

“ What a beautiful day for some Dodger baseball,” Commented Vin Scully, with this legendary saying you knew that it was indeed a good day for baseball. The Commissioner of Baseball was driving down the highway on his royal blue Ferrari, casually listening to any baseball game that was on the radio. Normally a Cubs, Braves, or dodgers game is broadcasted. Thankfully the commissioner got in his car right as the first pitch was thrown. Knowing the Hall of Fame induction was tomorrow, The commissioner went out to buy an expensive and the nicest suit he could possibly find. Four hours later, Rob Manfred returned to his mansion in his white Ferrari f12. To his right was a Lamborghini Aventador and Lamborghini Huracan, to his left was a Ferrari…

What is a mile stone? Well, in olden days, a mile stone was a sign on the road to mark the distance to a place, actually made of stone. However, today we speak of mile stones as events marking a significant change or stage in development: an achievement, watershed event or benchmark. For example, Sam Wilson is celebrating 30 years of employment with Kemira this month. Congratulations Sam, that is quite an achievement.…

‘Moving into the world involves different pathways to new experiences’ could be interpreted in many different ways. In The Story of Tom Brennan by JC Burke, Tom experiences different emotions and situations as he attempts to move into the world when his brother Daniel is involved in a tragic car accident. All three of these texts show that moving into the world involves different pathways to new experiences shown through different circumstances, problems and views.…
We reside in a city notoriously known for its insane nightlife, so growing up here in Las Vegas has not always been the most enjoyable experience due to the numerous age restrictions downtown with little to no options for genuine fun other than your basic mall or movie trip, thus leaving every kid yearning to be 21 in order to have a bit of freedom. But what if I told you about The Rocky Horror Picture Show? A kooky tradition that has been around in here in Las Vegas for 14 years and known to the world for the past 42, that has brought unity and self expression to its audiences you too can be a part of.…
Good morning/afternoon Teachers and peers, today I will be talking about Michael Moore’s need to persuade us into believing that America is a gun driven country. In this documentary, Bowling for Columbine, Michael Moore has used many persuasive techniques to get us to believe that every person in America feels safe to have a gun somewhere in their house for protection and that there are many terrible things that happen in America. To prove that Americans feel safer with a gun in their house and how America has many tragedies I will deconstruct 2 scenes from the documentary Bowling for Columbine. First I will be talking about selection and omission of James Nickles. Second I will be talking about the juxtaposition, and gaps and silences in this documentary.…

Robert Gray most definitely provokes thought and stirs emotion through an effective use of language and techniques used in his poems. One of his major messages are those connected with mans effect on the environment and our constant need to create something new and yet, forget about what we already have and where that ends up. Also the sense of our society almost becoming, un-Australian and very international.…

In 2001, George W. Bush gave a speech to Congress after the terrorist attack on 9/11. Although I was 10 years old and unable to understand everything then, I am able to understand them now. And as an American citizen I stand by Bush wanting to keep America free and the world a safe place for all human’s to live in. Bush gave this speech on September 20, 2001. Nine days after America had been attacked by terrorists. Bush makes sure to thank many people, including all of America for pulling together and helping each other in this time of confusion and weakness. He then goes on to explain to American why we were attacked and who these terrorists were. They terrorists were al-Qaida, whose goal is to remake the world and impose their radical beliefs on people everywhere. And when it comes down to the important part of Bush’s message, he lets American know that we are going to take matters into our own hands and these terrorists will be taken down.…
