David's Essay: A Short Story Of David
When someone holds onto a secret, the secret becomes a part of them; it stays hidden, but it awaits for a chance to escape. David struggles with his secrets for many years. In many occasions, he almost spills all his evil deeds because the guilt started to become too much for him. For example, the author gives us an inside look into David’s mind when she writes:

He shrugged off his shirt, but even so, when he slid his arms around her again, he was thinking, I love you. I love you so much, and I lied to you… He hesitated, on the edge of confessing everything, and then he could not… He must tell her; the words filled his mouth. I love you, I love you so much, and I lied to you. (Edwards 115)
