1) First question what questions do you have about APA format and style?
APA can be a bit confusing sometimes. I find the most difficult area of the APA style manual is the subsections. I am still not 100% clear about how to identify subsections. There doesn’t seem to be any concise answers on this either. In the APA publication manual 6th edition page 29 talks about subsections (APA, 2011). However when I am writing the paper I still am not clear as to how to break up and add in the subsections.
The second area I find confusing is the types of papers. The experiment paper is very diverse from the manuscript paper. So this makes me wonder which one will I need for my dissertation. Which leads me to wonder if I have to generate a hybrid of a manuscript and some other type?
2) Where might you search for answers to these questions?
There are several sources for reference. First I went directly to the manual for understanding. Second there is a website; http://www.apastyle.org/learn/tutorials/basics-tutorial.aspx. In addition there is an APA article that explains reporting standards for research in psychology (2008). I realize there needs to be an industry standard, but I wonder why it must be so complicated?
3) What steps will you take to ensure that the work you submit meets APA format and style expectations?
I have chosen to purchase PERRLA. I also have tabbed and laid out my APA book. I am not sure what else I can do to assure perfection. I am researching further possible books or websites to assist me.
