DB2 enviromental science
“Environmental stewardship is the responsibility to take care of our natural resources to ensure that they are sustainably managed for current and future generations” (Responsible Stewardship and Sustainable Resource Management, 2013). Sustainable resources are those resources that are replenished at a rate equal to, or greater than, the rate of consumption (What are Sustainable resources, 2013). Stewardship of natural resources is important for both individuals and organizations. By managing resource usage ethically and responsibly, good stewards of natural resources ensure healthy and beauty of the environment for the future. Stewardship begins at home. If everyone were to manage, care and steward the natural resources with which they have been entrusted or have access, large scale problems such as pollution and animal extinction that occur from mismanagement and poor stewardship of resources can be prevented.
One may ask, how society can maintain stewardship. It’s not easy but it starts with understanding the dynamics at work in the environment and the connection among environmental protection, economic prosperity and social equity and well-being. People can work together to make sustainable development a reality.
I personally don’t believe good stewardship and sustainable use of natural resources are being practiced. The farmers are burning the land to clear and make some space with isn’t a good thing for the environment. Having all that fire, isn’t safe for the community either. Trees is what a lot of animals eat without them, we wouldn’t have any animals. They go hungry sue to the lack of trees. In my opinion, if they are cutting trees down, they should just simply plant another. The suggestions I would make is that the people of Brazil should come together and talk before making a decision. People just need to understand that the Amazon is a beautiful natural resource and should learn how to use it wisely.

The biggest reason for deforestation in the Amazon is the clearing of rainforest lands for cattle pastures. Today, Brazil is the world 's largest exporter and producer of beef. (Butler, “Deforestation in the Amazon”) So raising cattle is understandably a big deal for Brazil. A developing country like Brazil is always looking for new ways to advance and to generate more and more income for their country. It is only logical for them to want to keep expanding their beef production to better develop their country. This leads them to look to the…

The environment offers essential resources, like nutrients that are recycled to keep soil fertile, biological services, such as providing the global pollination of crops that we depend on for food, and natural improvements for our quality of life, such as controlling the chemistry of the atmosphere. These resources are vital to the survival of the human race, and are often taken for granted. Humans are constantly using these products and amenities to assist in their lives and consequently creating wastes that are put back into their surroundings. All people have the potential to impact the environment, both positively and negatively, directly affecting their resources available to them and the quality of life for themselves and all people on…

The Amazon Rainforest, located in the northern part of South America, is the largest rainforest on Earth, containing more than 60% of Earth’s fresh water, over 20% of oxygen on Earth, and huge amounts of carbon dioxide (ACEER). However, the Amazon Rainforest has been deforested principally in order to provide land for the locals who were homeless due to poverty, overpopulation, and government policies. Also, economic reasons such as providing land for cattle ranches, agriculture, logging, and mining (Maczulak) increased the rate of deforestation. In fact, since 1988, over 141,470 square miles of the Amazon Rainforest have been deforested (INPE). The imprudent use of the resources and land of the Amazon Rainforest is destroying the…

Environmental resource management is the management of the interaction and impact of human societies on the environment. It is not, as the phrase might suggest, the management of the environment itself. Environmental resources management aims to ensure that ecosystem services are protected and maintained for future human generations, and also maintain ecosystem integrity through considering ethical, economic, and scientific (ecological) variables. Environmental resource management tries to identify factors affected by conflicts that rise between meeting needs and protecting resources. It is thus linked to environmental protection and sustainability.…

A significant party in all of this are the native Amazonians whose way of life is threatened with every felled tree. “Our ancestors taught us to understand the land and animals. We have used this knowledge carefully, for our existence depends on it’ (Doc 7). This is a view of the future of Brazil because the natives are very much representative of the current population and how their need and use of the rainforest is leading them to an eventual downfall. As well as a need to sutain way of life the people of Brazil also need a way to sustain themselves, sustainably developing the rainforest could lead to improved infrastructure such creating “...schools and hospitals...new roads and airports” (Doc 9). Each of these could improve their lives because more schools equals better education, hospitals better medical care, new roads more easy local transportation, and new airports could help improve the region's tourism. however it is unlikely that any of this can occur without the sustainable development of the…

In Brazil, there are many environmental issues, there is deforestation in the Amazon and other forest and there is too much pollution from waste and deforestation. This is a major issue in brazil and affects many people. These problems not only affect Brazilians but they also affect the world and people all around it. A large portion of deforestation in Brazil can be attributed to land clearing for pastureland by commercial and speculative interests, misguided government policies, inappropriate World Bank projects, and commercial exploitation of forest resources. Road constructions in the Amazon lead to deforestation. Roads provide access to logging and mining sites while opening forest frontier land to exploitation by poor landless farmers.…
