As a nursery assistant I support children before they go into reception. With the children I am always motivating and encouraging them and ensuring children have access to and are able to use material needed to complete tasks or activities of their own choice. Sometimes I help children who need extra support to complete tasks, individually and in groups (support literacy and numeracy activities in the classroom). When children who are upset I comfort them and if they have an accident I report it to the supervisor immediately, as I am waiting to do my First Aid course.
I actively get involved in playing various educational games with children and encourage them to learn through play or when doing art and craft activities (I also display children’s work for them and their parents to see). I listen to children’s responses when I read to them and tell them stories (to some children I translate and interpret). When doing the above I observe children’s performance and report on observations to the practitioner, and I do this at various times.
I support other members of the team at different times either through making resources or assisting during different activities.
