The death penalty is wrongly used and it is still used in many countries even though it can be used on the wrong people and innocent civilians that have been falsely accused of crimes. Personally, I think that the death penalty is a horrible and disgusting thing and that it should not be used except for extreme cases.
In 1993 a man by the name of Reggie Clemons was sentenced to death in the US state of St. Louis due to being an aid to the death of two young white women. There was no physical evidence that he helped cause these deaths and due to ‘prosecutorial misconduct’ the jury was sacked. Even so, Clemons is still on death row despite no evidence against him. This shows that even people who have done nothing wrong can be falsely accused and convicted. This is inhumane.
Also in the state of Georgia, September 2011, Troy Davis was put to death after 20 years on death row even though there was not much proof for his conviction. The state of Georgia’s outward boldness to execute Davis no matter what happened caused a hoard of Americans to wonder why the death penalty is used and in this case caused them to change their views on the topic. They were that shocked about it. Again, this shows a flaw in their system and how even well-known and popular people that is still innocent can be executed.
There are still many ways in which the death penalty can be used. There is the ‘electric chair’ in which the prisoner is killed by a strong source of electricity attached to their head and leg. Then there is the ‘lethal injection’ in which the prisoner is poisoned. In some countries a ‘firing squad’ is used, this is where the prisoner is shot. Unlike these quick deaths, ‘hanging’ and ‘stoning’ is still used and these methods are long and very painful. All of these forms of execution are a breach to a humans ‘right to life’ which is why I am against it.
The death penalty can have some good aspects to it. This is if the person has committed extreme
