Good Afternoon, My Name is Jack Callaghan and I will presenting on the topic of Debriefing particularly focusing on “the role of debriefing in simulation based learning’. Quickly before I begin, could you raise your hand if you have taken part in a debrief post simulation,……..I know for at least the past two years I personally have taken part in debriefing, after every scenario completed in class, being from Sonyas cardiology course to Brians trauma subject. Alright lets begin
Slide 2. What we cover
In this presentation we will cover “What debriefing is” We will talk about aspects of debriefing as well as defining the term……we will cover examples of debriefing in the workplace as well as deliberate what happened in those examples. And finally we will discuss the positives that can be taken from a well structured debriefing session.
Slide 3. Defining
In this context, debriefing is a …show more content…
Example 1
This is the first example I have for you to watch….. …………It is obvious that this is exactly NOT how you conduct a debrief. The lady who appears to be the head doctor lashes out at the surgeon and says “ if the patient gets infected it will be all your fault.” In the previous slides of this presentation it stated the ways to conduct an effective debrief and the ways to go about this. Clearly the female head doctor involved hasn’t seen this presentation and could definitely benefit from viewing.
Slide 13 and 14. Example 2
This example you are about to watch now shows the same simulation group just after they have viewed the same presentation you are watching today……………..It is evident that this debrief went a lot better as they talked about what happened, what they liked, what they learned and what they would change. This is conducted in a free flowing environment where everybody is open and acknowledges where they need to improve on for further training.
