George, Sam, and Rameck grew up in poor homes in New Jersey neighborhoods where kids don't have a chance according to the book. Their neighborhoods were dangerous. Fights, drug usage and poverty were common in the streets of Newark. These neighborhoods were called home to the three boys. George goes to the dentist one day and has a discussion with his doctor that causes George to think about a career choice in that field. But, what chance would someone with his background have of attaining such a goal? The same thing for his friends Rameck whose mother was a drug addict and was mostly raised by his grandmother and Sampson who was fifth of six children. All three wanted to be doctors. During high school these men learned of a program for…

However the neighborhood is very diverse and many others speak Arabic, Mestizo, French, Wolof and…
On the day of my behind the wheel driving test I had mixed emotions. I was a little bit nervous, what if I do not pass and was getting a little bit excited, thinking of all the opportunities I had if I did pass. I was nervously waiting in the car at the road test parking area for a DMV proctor to come. While my driving instructor, Hayk was chatting with other instructors in the shade. After what seemed to be the longest wait in my whole entire life was just fifteen minutes. After fifteen minutes past, an orange cone was placed on the hood of my car signaling I was next.…

Starting the car with a bright smile on my face. Feeling absolutely confident. I released the hand brake and immediately hit the brakes in attempt to stop the car. My heartbeat began to increase as I started to think what I should do next. As the car stood in the middle of the road I visualized my dad driving the car. Taking three deep breaths I quickly released the brake again and pressed on the clutch and shifted to first. As I cruised in the neighborhood feeling proud I saw a hand in the air, as it got closer I realized it was my dad demanding me to park the car. Though my dad hammered me verbally for stealing the car while he was asleep, I had a smile on my face because that day I had learned how to drive a manual car.…

In the short essay, Types of Shoppers (2014), the student describes the three unusual types of shoppers that make her average supermarket cashier job a little more interesting. The student goes about her observations with identifying and listing the characteristics that describe the “amnesiac shopper” who is always forgetful, the “senior citizen shopper” who appears to just be looking for a way out of the house , and the “hot shopper” who is ill tempered and anal retentive. The author does this classification of customers in an everyday grocery store in order to entertain the reader of her conclusions and to let the reader become aware of these shoppers in their own environment. Given the informal writing and casual tone, the student is writing to the average person whom uses the supermarket.…

When we arrived to school our teacher, Mrs.Brooks, told us to clear our desks so we could commence the exam as soon as possible. I was so nervous my hands were trembling uncontrollably. Boorstin also says that, “Dissent is the great problem of America today.” That reminded me of the book that we read over the summer, The Lord of the Flies. Jack and Ralph show dissent by nearly killing each other, never finding a common ground on how to run the island, and they can never just talk to one another. There always has to be something that’s said through another character, and soon gets back to the other character. They’re arguing never got them anywhere, and that’s why that example is an example of dissent.…
On a hot summer day in July, I was driving on the highway and I heard a loud noise coming from underneath the car. The car began to shake vigorously. I tensed my grip on the steering wheel and quickly put on my right signal. .I slowly pulled over to the right shoulder. I jumped out of the car and noticed my right front tire was flat .I started to panic being alone and not knowing how to change a flat tire. I had just passed my driver license test only six months ago and had never experienced this problem. I pulled out my cell phone and called my Dad. I explained the situation and asked if he could come help change the flat tire. He said yes that he could help but sounded angry when I told him I was in Roseville. I sat and waited in the hot sun for 45 minutes until he arrived. This whole situation could have been avoided if I knew how to change a flat tire.…
