A year after that the bill of rights was adapted, granting the people fundamental rights. It wasn’t till almost 100 years later that slavery was abolished, after a long civil war, tore the nation apart. Then came the slow moving iceberg of social movements including woman’s voting rights, African American voting rights, the segregation battels of the 1950s and the civil rights movments of the 1960s, it was until 2015, 240 years later, that all men and woman attained the right to marry whomever they choose. American lives are well above the standard of living for the rest of the world. Income and employment rates far exceed most nations, and American social services, like Medicare, welfare, social security and food stamps provided a level of security not afforded throughout most of the world. But American living isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, the once envied middle class has disappeared, we also have some of the highest murder rates in the world, we are the highest consumer of cocaine in the world, nearly 1 percent of the population incarcerated and 1 percent holding most of the wealth. America is as complex as it has ever been; racial issues are still at the forefront in the battel for equality. Woman in the work place still have a long way to go in terms of pay and positions offered. The poor and homeless rate is growing; a large number of those homeless are war veteran dealing with some kind of mental illness caused by the trauma of war, while protecting our ideals. These issues need to be fixed. We must continue to identify our weakness as a society, and make them our
