Declaration Of Independence: The Values Of American Society
The values of American society according to the Declaration of Independence are that all men are created equal, and that each of us have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. These rights have been established in our nation’s Constitution, and recognized by another document called the Bill of Rights, which spell them out in detail. American customs and traditions have been centered on these same values. We see these values reflected today when we recognize them in both law and custom. For example, there are laws which forbid discrimination based on race, religion, and origin. Societal norms have made it unthinkable to prejudge a person on the same grounds.
