The Mexican government wanted to stop new people coming to Texas so that way it would be easier to control. This is were the idea of the Bustamante Decree began to surface from Mexican authorities. They did not want to lose control of Texas so that’s why they started the laws, the 11 th article states to restrict who comes into Texas and not to let immigrants joining Texas. So this would cause families to fall apart if the rest of their family can’t come in to Texas to live with them. As well as not letting new people in , it would make Texas slow at advancing and growing to become a better state. He says that Texas won’t grow any more if they just restrict more immigrants coming in. The reason is because if the same people live there they would die and who else would invent and change new things in Texas. Plus American citizens living in Mexico won’t be able to see the rest of their families ever again. Since the article 11 states that immigrants from other countries are restricted, this also includes America as well and those people can’t come to Texas to see their family. So as a result the 11th article in the decree was shot down for a short time, which helped American Citizens see their families.
The Bustamante Decree was a major part of our history and it has influenced the way we control immigrants coming to our Texas today. Even though Mexico thought it was a great idea for them, it just made look scared and helpless because we were taking their precious Texas. Stephen F. Austin was the main figure in stopping the Bustamante Decree from impacting the future of Texas in a negative way. So therefore I agreed on his argument because if he don’t stop the restriction on immigration, then we would not have had the great Texas
