immigration, when asked during a poll conducted by the University of Texas and the Texas Tribune, Texans themselves selected illegal immigration and foreign terrorists groups gaining entry to the United States via the Texas border (Ramsey). Everyone knows and understands that certainly there are people that want to come to the United States for the right reasons, but that does not help with the imminent threat that Texas is facing right now. In fact, the Department of Public Safety issued a report that the Mexican drug cartels are the most significant threat (Ortiz). That strongly worded report was leaked after it was sent to state lawmakers, who were requesting additional funding to deal with the latest unprecedented surge in smuggling of both humans and illegal drugs (Ortiz). Once again it is that open border that is the underlying problem. Not only are people flowing over that border, but other things as well. Those things can be extremely dangerous and damaging. Weapons and drugs are coming across the border in alarming numbers. The cartels themselves have now encroached on Texas with devastating results. The population of Texas is between uncontrollable drug problems that have significantly increased the drug demand. That drug problem that is frequently ignored in the rush to label the abuse of drugs as an illness instead of what it is, which is an illegal act. The open border also is used as the means that commercial sex and forced labor is brought into the country as well (Ortiz). The number of contracted hits, home invasions, and kidnapping has risen dramatically in Texas. The cartels make use of their ability to move illegal immigrants across the border in several ways. They earn money from the immigrants themselves, who pay them to cross the border. They use the immigrants to move their weapons and drugs. They also use the immigrants as bait to tie up the time, money, and efforts of law enforcement (Ortiz). Valuable resources are continually wasted looking at a flood of immigrants while the real problems hide in plain sight.
The truth is that the immigrants cost the taxpayers of Texas billions of dollars.
It is estimated that illegal immigrants alone cost Texas taxpayers over $12 billion in tax money (Boyle). That amount is staggering. The amount spent educating illegal immigrant children is over $8 billion (Boyle). Taxpayers across the country are paying billions to fund the costs of Medicaid that illegal immigrants and their kids. It is commendable that people want to be welcoming and giving to immigrants, but when the cost becomes too high, common sense has to prevail. The cost of the open border in Texas is the perfect example of that. These people are not coming to America to fully participate in an American way of life. Instead, they are maintaining the customs and culture of their country and making great uses of the limited resources of Texas.
Control of this threat is by fishing out the bad eggs from the good ones. Firstly start by fighting corruption, believe it or not, many people are struggling against fixing of this threat because they make their money through drugs, guns, and sex trafficking. If the government deploy numbers of border security to the border, so that there will be no loophole for illegal immigrants and cartel to move guns and drugs. Therefore crossing the country, the migrant has to undergo the due process by applying for validated, biometric entry keys to cross our border safely and legally. It will free up our border security cadre to focus on preventing cartels, traffickers and terrorists from exploiting holes in our current
system.
