I have been a Three Season Mariner each year here at RHS, and doing so shows my commitment to my school, my teams, and my love for soccer, basketball, and lacrosse. I believe my love for each of these sports is the reason I am able to set an example and be considered a leader. This year I was elected a captain for all three teams, and although we did not win as many games as we would have liked to in soccer, our team was brought closer together everyday. We worked together to improve and without the help of my team, my co-captain Kaylynn, and my coaches; being a leader would not have been so much fun and such a learning experience.Define the word “leadership”. How would you characterize yourself as a leader? John Maxwell once said, “a leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” Leadership is the responsibility to be able to guide and inform those around you. Serving on the Rocky Hill Student Council, and even previously my middle school student council, has taught me that one needs to be selfless to be a leader. It is important to consistently set an example for those around you. As a class representative, I have learned the importance of incorporating my classmates ideas and cooperation in working with others.
